About Me

Hi, my name is Sara Howard. I've been drawing since I was four years old, and designing websites since I was 10. My birthday is May 1st. I have a wonderful boy in my life whose name is Mike, and I currently live with him in Oak Harbor, WA. I received an AA degree from Skagit Valley College, a local community college here in town. The picture to the right is of me sitting next to my artwork I have in the permanent art collection at the college.

Online, at conventions, and even to some friends, I go by the name "Matrices." That's also the name of one of my characters. Matrices became established as my name because it normally wasn't taken in other online communities, so it eventually stuck.

I've been involved in the furry, cartoon, and anthropomorphic fandom since around 1998 - 1999. Its hard to remember an exact date, since it was more of a gradual realization of interest. I've been drawing cartoon animals since I was four years old, and the first reoccurring character I made up was a mutt doggie named "Sniffy."

I've always been crafty, and have been sewing for many years. I've sewn lots of things, including pants, car seat covers, purses, blankets, dog beds, pillowcases, and of course costume items. Since 1999 I've made my own costume masks of one of my characters almost every year for Halloween. The first attempt was of my character Mukilteo, using paper maché which I just painted. I tested the limits of paper maché, and eventually moved towards plastic canvas and foam construction around 2003 and have experimented with different maskmaking mediums and techniques ever since. This gives me over 8 years of mask and costume-making experience. I've also taught classes on mask making, tail making, and costume design the last two years the Conifur Northwest convention happened ('04 and '05, which I also received college credit for planning and executing in 2004). I also help moderate the large (over 2,500 member) LiveJournal community, infofursuit.

To me, the furry fandom is only a hobby. Its very exciting to be able to take that interest in the hobby, apply my creative skills, and earn money while doing what I love-- making costume items and drawing. My friends and I have formed our own group called NorthSound, where we attend events and create costumes together.

My favorite animals are wolves and foxes. My favorite color is green, and in addition to the things I enjoy and showcase on this site I also like photography, craft-making, sewing, old cars, and listening to music. I enjoy playing video games, and I collect videogame consoles. My collection includes Nintendo, Super Nintendo, Nintendo 64, Game Boy, Virtual Boy, Game Boy Advance SP, Nintendo DS, GameCube, Wii, Sega Genesis, Game Gear, Playstation, Playstation2, and a few other systems (I tend to enjoy Nintendo systems best). I also collect taxidermy and animal skulls (ones which were either given to me, or my family and I have found in the woods). I believe in using every part of an animal, not letting it go to waste. I have a collection with over 40 skulls, including bear, coyote, red fox, deer, cattle, raccoon, rabbit and various bird skulls, among others.

Some other websites I've made include Sara's Other Garfield Page, which was the first website I made (age 10). And Sara's Petz Homepage, a fansite for the video game series "Petz," which is unfortunately no longer online.
